A mini-conference and hands-on workshop introduces an AI-human workflow for turning large text and media corpora into validated research data.
AI and Machine Learning in Social Science
On Friday, October 30, 2026, Min Hee Go will host a mini-conference and hands-on workshop at Ewha Womans University on the promises and potential of AI and machine learning for future social-science research.
The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5:10 p.m. Korea Standard Time in POSCO Hall. Sessions will be conducted in English and Korean, with AI-assisted interpretation planned.
From corpus to dataset
I will chair the morning panel on AI in social science, present the lab’s AI-human workflow for extracting and validating datasets from large media corpora, and lead the afternoon workshop. The hands-on session takes participants through a human-supervised process from exploring a corpus and defining a unit of analysis to developing a codebook, extracting a pilot dataset, and checking reliability.
The complete workflow is available as the lab’s AI and Machine Learning in Social Science Training module. It separates corpus preparation, retrieval, concept discovery, classification, structured extraction, and inference so that each step can be documented and evaluated. The workshop example uses North Korean enterprise coverage in KCNA and Rodong Sinmun, while participants may bring an appropriate corpus of their own.
Program and support
The day brings together researchers interested in the substantive opportunities created by generative AI and large language models as well as the methodological, ethical, and systemic challenges they introduce. The program includes panel discussions and a two-hour practical workshop.
The event is supported by the Ewha Institute of Politics and Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council. View the workshop overview and program.
